A World Heritage site, Ayers Rock, named after Henry Ayers, the then-South Australia Chief Secretary, also goes by the Aboriginal name of Uluru.

Ayers Rock is one of the most impressive and recognisable natural landmarks in Australia located in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, about 335kms to the southwest of Alice Springs close to the geographic centre of Australia.

Ayers Rock is a massive sandstone formation stands 348 m high and has a total circumference of 9.4 km above ground. It extends even further than this amount below ground.

Ayers Rock is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people who own the land around and about Ayers Rock today.

Ayers Rock is notable for appearing to change colour at different times of the day and year, most notably when it glows red at dawn and sunset as shown in the Photo.
